Bayer’s Contour Blood Glucose Monitoring System
I’ve been diabetic for over 10 years and used a variety of glucometers. This has been the best and easiest to use right out of the box. It requires a pindrop sample and gives an accurate result in only 5 seconds.
The display is quite large for those with eyesight difficulties. It comes with a carrying case to hold the meter, a lancet, and a vial of test strips. You don’t even have to take the meter out of the case to use it…just unzip the case and pop in a test strip!
It’s easy to track pre-and post-meal readings using the up/down arrow and “M” button to mark each result. It can even be set to remind you to re-test post-meal in 2.5 hours!
The meter can be connected to a PC for downloading data (my doctor does this for me to analyze my readings).
It only comes with a few test strips (this is how all glucometers are packaged), so be sure to get extras. If your insurance doens’t cover the strips, LOOK AROUND AT AMAZON for boxes of strips. They can be found for almost 50% of the cost at your local Wal-Mart.

The Ascensia(tm) Contour Blood Glucose Monitoring system has proven not as accurate as I would have expected. The unit came with 10 FREE Strips and I purchased an additional 100 strips. The first thing I did was the chemical strip test to determine its stability – I used 3 Strips and the output was within a few numbers . After getting out the Lancet I decided to test myself. My First reading was 91 (very good). I then proceeded to test another finger (just out of curiosity); and the reading was 110 (OH DEAR).. I proceeded to poke and bleed myself an additional 10 times and the readings went from 85 to 125… THE AVERAGE READING BEING 93 (which I assume is my true reading). I spoke with my doctor, he told me this is a known issue with the Ascensia(tm); The method used to draw blood is very critical. You cannot “MILK” your finger, this causes additional platelets to form screwing up the readings. Especially if you wait over 5 seconds before donating the sample to the STRIP.

The Ascensia Contour Monitoring System is everything I had hoped. It is compact and so easy to use. I appreciate the effort put into a design that requires so little blood sample and can be extract from a variety of places. The product was shipped quickly and received in great condition. I have only praise for both the product and the process.

I have used the Ascensia Contour Monitoring System for about one year now. This is by far the easiest and one of the fastest blood sugar monitors I have seen. Here are my observations:
* Requires very little blood
* Fast readings, 5 seconds
* BIG numbers on display
* Inexpensive test strips (when bought through Amazon), see Ascensia Contour Test Strips Box of 100
* Accurate (I have tested against my doctor’s meter)
This unit does exactly what I need it to do and is fairly inexpensive (I even bought a second one to keep at work).
