Can You Lower Your Blood Sugar Levels With a Low-GI Diet? – Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus - Cause

The news about how to cure diabetes will come as a shock to the medical Establishment. But the science is now in after years of denial. Medicine has supported low-fat eating for decades, but we realize now that it did not work:

* people just got fatter and fatter

* obesity and diabetes rates increased dramatically

* no one connected the dots to see that it’s actually carbohydrates that cause diabetes.

As I recall, my highest blood pressure reading was 180/130 or thereabouts. However, I have no recollection of what my blood sugar level reading was back then but I do remember going to a clinic one time to have it tested and the nurse told me it was high. How high I don’t really know. I didn’t care because I did not feel ill at all. Even when they told me I should check my blood pressure, I still continued with my unhealthy diet, sedentary life style and worse, smoking. I was kind of proud actually thinking that even as my blood sugar was high and my blood pressure too, I wasn’t feeling sick and I did not experience anything bad or life threatening. Little did I know that diabetes and heart disease were already lurking within my body, just waiting for the right time to manifest themselves.

Are you shocked? We’ve all been deluded because no one took the time to understand the basics. It was known by 1950 that the body aggressively converted carbohydrates to fat.

Since 2002, new, young researchers really looked into the low-carb diet. What did they find:

* fast reduction in body weight and body fat

* dramatic stabilization and lowering of blood sugar

* reduction in the dangerous fats

* low-carb simply whipped low-fat!.

The low-carb or carb-restricted diet will help diabetics dramatically improve their health. And it works fast because your metabolic systems begin to change in as little as six hours. Your body switches very quickly into a fat-burning mode and decreases its reliance on blood sugar as a source of fuel.

Metabolic Syndrome is a common health problem today. It’s characterized by several major abnormalities including:

* obesity

* diabetes

* cardiovascular disease

* high blood pressure.

I have an automatic blood pressure monitor at home that I can use. It was a gift from a cousin who lives in California. I also have a blood sugar monitor that I do not use because that thing where you have to put the blood on is quite expensive here in the Philippines and I rather spend my money on medicines. Instead, I usually go and have an Hba1c test every three months, which doctors say is more reliable in indicating whether I am controlling my diabetes or not.

Aim to make changes gradually but don’t fall into the trap and eat excessive amounts of low-GI foods.  Over consumption will lead to weight gain not weight loss, and will not help you conquer your type 2 diabetes and your blood sugar levels.

Having the Proper Knowledge about Diabetes to Effectively Manage the Disease

Diabetes is a disease that the sufferer needs to deal with for the rest of their lives. You have to remember that diabetes still has no available cure and the only way to treat it is by properly managing the blood glucose levels. Being diabetic can be very hard as you will need to make certain changes in your life in order to properly manage the disease. So, if you think that living with diabetes is simple, you may want to think again. With proper knowledge, you will be able to prevent complications caused by diabetes and be able to live a near normal life.

First of all, diabetes is a condition where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin in order to regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. In some cases, it is a condition where the body doesn’t properly use the insulin it provides. Because of this, diabetics suffer from a condition called hyperglycemia or high blood glucose level.

This condition is very serious and can really be life threatening if you don’t properly manage it.

This is basically what diabetes is all about.

Diabetes increases the risk of other diseases in affecting you. It can increase the risk of heart related diseases, kidney disorders, liver disorders, and it can even cause blindness. With proper management of diabetes, you can prevent these all complications. So, how can you manage diabetes properly?

For starters, diet is the most important factor. There are some rules required to be followed pertaining to your diet that is when and what to eat in order to manage your disease properly. Generally speaking, a diabetes diet consists of low salt, low sugar, low carbohydrates, low fat, and high in whole grains and vegetables. The eating pattern is also important as you need to regulate your blood glucose level through the food you eat. To prevent your blood sugar level to go below the normal level, you need to eat snacks in between meals. This means that you need to eat snacks after breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Always keep in mind that what you eat is just as important as when to eat. This is basically the diabetes diet.

Exercise is also an important factor in properly managing diabetes. By exercising at least 30 minutes a day, you will be able to regulate your blood sugar level. You can try going for a jog, walk, or play sports, such as tennis, badminton, or basketball.

Diet and exercise alone are not enough to properly manage diabetes,this you got to keep in mind. You also need to constantly and regularly monitor your blood glucose level. You need to test your blood several times each day in order for you to carefully plan what you eat and also the activities you do for the day. You can do so with a device called glucose meter.

Also, some diabetics need insulin to regulate their blood glucose level. It is important that you should follow your schedule in taking medications or insulin, checking your blood glucose level, eating, and exercise strictly.

Living with diabetes is hard. That’s a fact that you need to live by. However, it can be easily managed and still live a near normal life. With the proper knowledge and self discipline, you can be sure that you will be able to conquer the disease and live a full and healthy life.

What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a very serious condition, one that millions of people all around the world are suffering from right now. Whether you have diabetes or you just know someone that does it is very important that you take the time to learn about diabetes mellitus or whatever other type of diabetes they may have, so that you can be aware of just what a serious condition this is.

The Details Of Diabetes

There are three different types of diabetes that a person can develop. Type 1 and type 2 are the two types of diabetes. Then there is the gestational diabetes which only pregnant women can develop. Not all do, but many pregnant women develop gestational diabetes during their second or third trimester, but typically the condition will be gone after the baby is born.

Dealing with gestational diabetes for a woman is very crucial as instead of one two lives are at risk. Doctors need to pay close attention to the woman and her unborn child and make sure that everything is okay and that both are in good health.

Now with the type 1 diabetes, this is an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas in the body produces little or no insulin. This is the most common type of diabetes that people develop, and one of the most serious for sure. Doctors are actually not aware at this point as to what exactly is the initial cause of type 1 diabetes but there are several different risk factors that are taken into consideration such as obesity.

Then there is the type 2 diabetes, which is the form of diabetes that is more closely associated with old age, family history and even a previous history of gestational diabetes.

The treatment of diabetes is different for different type of diabetes. It is important that all diabetics take the signs of diabetes as seriously as they need to be, and make sure that they are working with their doctor so that they can manage their diabetes properly and ensure that they are not going to be putting themselves at any risk.

Diabetes is always a challenging condition to deal with, but one that you can handle and keep under control as long as you watch what you eat and are regularly exercising. It is important to have control on lifestyle to manage diabetes properly.

Xylitol and Your Health…

One of the amazing hidden ‘secrets’ of this century is xylitol. It is truly astonishing on two points. This five carbon sugar can help to prevent both tooth decay and gingival disease because the bacteria that eat it cannot utilize xylitol as they can glucose (six carbon table sugar).

The second fact to know about xylitol is that it has been both well known in one country and almost unheard of in many other countries at the same time. This astounds me because it demonstrates the limited nature of our human awareness very clearly.

Let’s explore further. Xylitol has been used and well documented to reduce the incidence of dental disease in Finland for over five decades now.  Yet here in the United States and many other countries you will hardly hear of a dentist that promotes it. There may be a few, but they are not many.

How can something as beneficial as xylitol, in today’s world, be so unknown to most people despite the fact that Finlanders have been using it since the second world war when regular sugar became scarce.  Later, the dentists and doctors of Finland discovered that their levels of dental health improved due to the use of xylitol as a substitue for sugar. Another item worthy of renewed interest is the
oral irrigator.

Xylitol has one third the calories of an comparable amount of table sugar. It does not promote tooth decay or the growth of the bacteria that cause gum disease or bad breath. It does not require insulin to be metabolized and therefore is of particular interest to diabetics.

Few things in this world are perfect and xylitol does have some drawbacks. Pets should not be given xylitol. While a human being has a special metabolic pathway to digest xylitol, many pets do not. Therefore it can be harmful to pets and can even kill them.

You can learn more about xylitol at Xylitol.org. There is plenty of research and information about xylitol there. Oramd is different in that it is an essential oil mix for helping to fight dental disease.

We tend to think that if something is good, that everyone should be aware of it.  Yet, as this example shows, that is not always the case. There are so many things we still do not know.  Perhaps we should resolve to reach further beyond our limited awareness and discover the truth of this world and the universe that is around us.

Diabetes Mellitus: What Is It?

Most people are aware of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and even the gestational diabetes, but not a lot of people know what diabetes mellitus is. People should have knowledge of this serious condition. Well in fact, diabetes mellitus is not a separate disease itself but in fact is an umbrella term that is used to include all the different types of diabetes.

So when your doctor first diagnoses you with diabetes mellitus, he is then going to have to work to determine which specific type of diabetes it is that you are suffering from. There is no way to get treatment for any diabetes sufferer until this is done. Diabetes mellitus treatment needs to be started as immediately as possible, which is why all diabetes needs to be aware of what type of diabetes mellitus they are dealing with.

How to Find About Diabetes Mellitus

If you just have a feeling that you have diabetes, or maybe your doctor has suggested the same, there is really only one way to determine what type of diabetes mellitus you are suffering from, and that is to get a blood test done. With this alone they are going to be able to determine what type of diabetes you have and can then progress on and determine an appropriate treatment to be used here.

One should be serious about the treatment of any diabetic condition. People with diabetes can not only get very sick, they can actually die as a result of their disease, and especially if they are not getting the appropriate treatment. Make sure that you are aware of your diabetes mellitus and just how bad it could get if you are not taking proper care of yourself.

The first thing that a doctor will typically do is prescribe medication. This is not supposed to be used for the long-term of things necessarily, but it will help to get the condition under control and make sure that they are going to be okay until a long-term solution is found. Based on what is known, the diabetes medications that are available today work to increase the insulin output by the pancreas, and decrease the absorption of carbohydrates from the intestine.

The medications that are available today are incredibly advanced, and should be able to help you manage your diabetes and keep it under control.

Would A Diabetes Support Group Be Of Help To You?

When I was growing up, no one told me about diabetes. No one told me about the symptoms of diabetes, or about diabetes risk factors. I was never told that it ran my family, that obesity was a serious factor in whether you developed it, and that the fact that I was overweight put me in imminent danger. By the time I found out, it was too late. I was already very sick with diabetes.

I grew up in a family that was seriously in denial, and soon I was in denial myself. I tried out flaky diabetic remedies that were reputed to be miracle cures, but in fact only made me more sick.I was not taking my medicine on a regular basis, not sticking with my diet, and in general not taking care of myself. In fact, if it weren’t for diabetics support groups, I might not be alive today.

The first time I heard about a diabetes support group, I outwardly sneered. I didn’t feel like I needed diabetes support groups. Support groups for diabetics were just not my style, I thought. And one day, I took a serious look in the mirror.I realized that I was in poor shape and I needed the help of a group. That is the point when I joined a diabetes support group.

The very first time I went to the Diabetes support group, I was suprised by how friendly and supportive everyone was. I did know that diabetes support groups were supposed to be welcoming places, but I was unprepared for the effect it would have on me. Part of what diabetes support groups help you with is addressing all of that inner fear and anxiety. Of course, diabetes support groups also address more tangible issues, like taking the responsibility to check up on each other and making sure that everyone is taking care of their condition. All in all, the organisation had everything I needed.

Manage Your Diabetes Blood Sugar Levels

Diabetes has become one of the biggest health crises in the modern world and can make life difficult for those who have the disease. Diabetes is a condition that makes it diffucult for your body to maintain proper blood sugar levels. This results in erratic blood sugar levels that can rise or drop significanlty beyond the body’s normal requirements. If your blood sugar levels are not properly controlled, you will need to regulate your blood sugar in order to control your diabetes.

If you discover that you have diabetic symptoms, it’s vital to make the necessary adjustments to your lifestyle to control your body’s blood sugar levels. One way to control your blood sugar is by switching to a diabetic diet menu. If you are struggling with diabetes, don’t eat items that will cause a significant rise in your blood sugar levels. Monitoring your blood sugar and making regular trips to the doctor will help ensure that your condition does not get worse. By making regular appointments with your doctor, they can set up a diabetes treatment plan that will be the most effective for you.

Battling Diabetes Through Indespensable Drugs

Diabetic drugs can be one of the most highly demanded medical supplies. You can obtain these types of drugs at your local pharmacy or by purchasing straight from the internet. It’s essential that you consult with your doctor so you can make an informed decision on which type of drugs to purchase. A large portion of these drugs are oral hypoglycemic drugs. They help your body by reducting blood sugar levels.  Blood sugar levels are also aided by these diabetic drugs because they can help with your body’s insulin production

Side Effects of Sugar DiabetesTreatment

Using diabetic drugs could cause some side effects that may be dangerous.  Some of the commonly know side effects are headaches, {respitory infections, infections of your respitory system}, or even liver failure. Therefore, keep in mind that it would be wise to see your doctor to evaluate which side effects you may encounter. A key thing to remember is that oral hypoglycemic drugs may not always be succesful in managing the disease which is the reason many doctors recommend insulin treatment and/or therapy.

Insulin is one of the hormones found in your body that targets extra blood sugar levels. Blood glucose, or carbs that get ingested by your body, is normally burned up by the insulin produced by your body. However, due to a variety reasons, a fluctuation occurs in the body which causes the amount of insulin produced to fall. It’s the reduction in insulin which ends up leading to diabetes.

Prevent Your Blood Sugar Levels from Getting Out of Control

If you are concerned that you may be prone to becoming diabetic, the good news is that you can take steps to prevent blood sugar diabetes. If you don’t currently have diabetes, you can take certain steps to avoid ever developing diabetes. A simple diabetes risk test can tell you if you are at risk for developing diabetes. By using blood samples, your doctor can measure your blood glucose levels. If you have developed diabetes, then your blood sugar will be high above the body’s normal limit. However, before most people develop diabetes, they almost always show pre-diabetes blood sugar levels. These are blood sugar levels that are slightly above normal, but not enough to cause you to be a full-scale diabetic.

Ultimately, only you can prevent diabetes if you’re willing to make changes in your life that will help control your blood sugar levels. Until there is a diabetes cure, maintaining your blood sugar by eating healthy and exercising are the keys to living free of diabetes

Get hold of reliable glucose test products like Abbott Glucose Strips that has been in the market for considerable time and proven to show accuracy of result. Glucose test strips are available in packages containing 50 test strips intended for self-testing. It is done by pricking the skin, usually on the finger tip in order to get a pea size blood sample to be placed on a disposable strip. The result will show a change in color or electrical characteristic measured by an electronic meter. Piercing the body is to draw blood sample is painful. The personal checking of plasma glucose level for patients who are newly diagnosed of the type 2 disease must integrate the process of a structured self-management.

Patients with type 2 diabetes normally test the glucose in the whole blood at least once a day preferably before breakfast. It would be helpful to find out the effectiveness of the patient’s diet, exercise, and medication being administered. For type 1 diabetes, they use insulin, so they are required to test their blood sugar about three to ten times a day. It is conducted to ensure the efficiency of the previous insulin intake and to help determine the next dosage of insulin. The frequency could be annoying, so, there is a fast five-second test available. It could be taken from different alternative sites in the finger, palm, forearm, upper arm, thigh, and calf. When you are testing for hypoglycemia or if you have unawareness of hypoglycemia, it is highly recommended to test using your finger only. Gestational Diabetes Diet Plan: Ensuring Good Health During Pregnancy

Every pregnant mother should abide by gestational diabetes diet plan to maintain good health not only herself but also for baby yet to be born. Gestational diabetes affects only four percent of pregnant mothers in the US but is nevertheless a very serious health concern that must be taken very seriously. The reason of causing gestational diabetes is still not very clear however condition disappears after the delivery of the baby is done.

A Proper Gestational Diabetes Diet Plan Can Tolerate Stress Of Giving Birth

Perhaps it is the stress of bringing a newborn into the world that causes a woman to develop gestational diabetes; regardless of the cause of gestational diabetes following a gestational diabetes diet plan can prove to be very helpful in eliminating the symptoms of gestational diabetes.

A gestational diabetes diet plan can also aid pregnant mothers that already are suffering from diabetes which is another good reason to follow such a plan. If the condition is not treated then there is greater risk that pregnant mothers with gestational diabetes will also develop hyperglycemia which in turn is the main reason why problems arise in pregnancy. It could for example cause the fetus to begin producing excessive insulin which would develop into a disease known as macrosomia that in turn can lead to the baby developing a too large body as well as head.

The best way to create a gestational diabetes diet planis to get a doctor to recommend one; or you can even consider having a dietician provide necessary inputs and in fact, anyone concerned with providing education on diabetes too can help you create an appropriate diet plan. The only real concern when creating a gestational diabetes diet plan is to ensure that the plan is personalized and should take into account the weight of the mother as well as her height.

Of course, the aim of any good gestational diabetes diet plan is to control calories intake and to also provide sufficient amounts of nutrients to the body while also helping to keep blood glucose levels at or close to normal levels.

Doctors know that gestational diabetes during pregnancy leads to elevated levels of insulin in the blood and so requires that the pregnant mother test her blood sugar levels at least four times in a day. These tests can not only show the level of blood glucose but can also help identify risk of developing hyperglycemia which is another health concern during pregnancy.
